Mark Garry Making and Meaning

Cave is very pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Dublin based Irish artist MarkGarry. Mark will be presenting a completely new body of work at CAVE entitled "Making and Meaning".

Mark's practice stems from and is informed by a number of diverse fields of research that inform his interest in observing and engaging with the many mechanisms that influence and effect how one navigates the world. His works are particularly concerned with the complexity and subjectivity inherent in these navigations. While Mark uses avariety of media and mechanisms in his practice he primarily focuses on the making of site specific gallery based installations and musical collaborations."Making and Meaning" is composed of a number of related elements. Cave will host a delicate considered sculptural installation that combines physical, visual, sensory and empathetic analogues, creating arrangements of elements that intersect the space and relate both to the physical make up of the space and each other. Mark integratessonic elements in his practice in a number of ways including outdoor sonic sculptures and musical collaborations. These collaborations respond to a new set of conceptual criteria with each specific project/opportunity .In addition to this installation Mark has transformed a sailing boat into a Harp that is played by the wind. Mark and Irish musician/composer Sean Carpio have collaborated to develop a series of new musical works to accompany this outdoor sonic sculpture. There will be a public performance of these works.Mark Garry represented Ireland at the 2005 Venice Biennale in a group exhibition which was subsequently presented at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, in 2006. Mark has had a number of notable international exhibition opportunities including most recently, Maria Stenfors , London (2011), Sleepover, The Serpentine Gallery, London (2010) Gallery Vartai.
